A collection of paintings and works on paper I created during a year spent at  North Park Village Nature Center and earlier. This space is a  truly unique wildlife sanctuary included in the Chicago Park District. It is a place I’ve visited regularly over the last 25 years and it  speaks to my essence. It's one of the places in the world where I sense and connect with  the ephemeral nature of life.  As it is a sanctuary for animals and botanical life I see it as a sanctuary for human beings too.

Process:I work in nature and from nature.  I’m an observational artist at heart.  I also work from memory and this is one reason I like to revisit a place/space many times.  It becomes embedded in my visual and visceral memory.  The shapes, the light, compositions, color and emotions along with similarities I find between different, seemingly unrelated spaces.  I’m not a direct recorder of what I see.  I’m a recorder of what I sense in what I see.  And seeing then becomes a process of selection.
